Annual Backpack Drive—August
On average, back-to-school items like pencils and binders cost families $85 per child — far above what most of our families can afford. We are partnering with High Water Women to purchase book bags filled with school supplies for $20 each.
Thank you to High Water Women, who donated 450 backpacks to the drive; to our dedicated board member Kris Amato, who played a crucial role in spearheading this effort and ensuring its success; to the men and women of KPMG for their generous support of the drive; and to US Pacific Transport for the donation of the delivery trucks, as well as the drivers who graciously donated their time.
Purchasing just one backpack ($20) will make a meaningful difference in a child’s school year. Your donation is 100% tax deductible and will go exclusively toward purchasing backpacks for our children.
On Monday, May 14, 2018, The Child Center of NY hosted its Annual Spring Gala at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. This year’s gala celebrated 65 years of service to some of New York City’s most underprivileged children and families — and the success we have had in assisting those children to reach their full potential in life, regardless of the hurdles they face each day.
It was our sincere pleasure to honor Chef Lidia Bastianich, an Emmy Award-winning public television host, a best-selling cookbook author with a dozen books published to date, a successful restaurateur, and owner of a flourishing food and entertainment business.
Thank you for supporting our 2018 gala! You can view photos on our 65th anniversary gala page.
For 250 children from low-income families, our annual holiday party will be the high point of the season. We begin the festivities with an early dinner, then move on to a dance party and games, face painting, balloon animals, and a visit from Santa Claus, who gives each child a gift.
As a Corporate Sponsor, you can make the magic happen for the kids and your employees. Benefits include:
- A corporate volunteer project for your employees who could help put smiles on children’s faces by gathering and wrapping gifts for the children
- A team-building experience, planning and running the games and activities
- A wonderful media event for your company emphasizing your community involvement
- The happiness that comes from being part of a caring community
Candy Cane Toy Drive — December
Our children look forward to this event all year. The children fill out paper candy canes with their name, age, and gift wishes — wishes that come true, thanks to generous supporters. It’s another great way to get your company, clients, and vendors involved and bring the holiday spirit to less fortunate children. If you would like more information please reach out to Gabrielle Infante, Development Associate, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Annual Raymond J. Cook Annual Golf Outing — September 24, 2018, The Seawane Club, 1300 Club Drive, Hewlett Harbor
Every September, over 200 business professionals from around the area come together in support of The Child Center of NY’s service to children and families. This year, we are hosting a fun-filled day of golf that includes, food, cocktails, contests, and prizes. More importantly, you will hear and see some of the amazing work The Child Center does.
Far Rockaway RBI Volunteer Day—June, O’Donohue Park, Far Rockaway
Far Rockaway RBI is a baseball league for youth ages 6-14, formed by The Child Center of NY in partnership with other community partners, including Major League Baseball (MLB). The children engage in practices and games, clinics, baseball-related youth development activities, and opportunities to engage with MLB players and other personnel from the New York Mets while learning the values of teamwork, self-discipline, and sportsmanship through baseball.
On Far Rockaway RBI Volunteer Day, volunteers will have the opportunity to coach a team with a manager. Those with no baseball experience can help set up the field, oversee water and field supplies, remind the players of the lineup, and possibly provide snacks or lunch. No matter what your task, you will be serving as a positive role model for the players and have a unique chance to see the magic of Far Rockaway RBI in action!
Spring Deadline: March / Fall Deadline: September
Each spring and winter, our afterschool programs offer a showcase of students’ artwork, musical and dramatic performances, and school projects that is open to parents, political officials, and the community.
The attendance at all of the showcases is a total of 1,400-1,500 people.
As a top sponsor of the Spring Showcase, you would be listed on all invitations and promotional materials sent to parents, politicians, and community groups, listed on all signage at the event, and given an opportunity to speak from the podium at the event.
Head Start Moving Up Ceremonies—August
Our Head Start programs for 3- and 4-year-olds prepare children from low-income families to enter kindergarten ready and excited to learn. We do this by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development and engaging parents in the process.
In August, we celebrate the transition of our 280 students from Head Start to kindergarten in each of our classrooms with special presentations by the children and a luncheon with the families.
As a top sponsor of these events, your name would be listed on our invitations, flyers, programs, and signs. You would also have the opportunity to address the parents at the events.
Lafayette 148 New York Event and Reception
Last fall, shoppers received a 20% discount, and 10% of the proceeds went to Child Center programs. We’re planning more events like this in the future, so keep an eye out for updates!
