Every year, the New York State Education Department honors the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by inviting schools to submit student art and essays that reflect Dr. King’s teachings. The works are displayed online and on the Empire State Plaza North Concourse in downtown Albany.

Ciel said of his piece, Hand in Hand, which was made with acrylic paint on canvas, “I think I meant for everyone to be there for each other. For everyone struggling with similar things based around racism to just help out and be there for one another. We never know each other’s struggles so it helps not just us, but the community to make our environment a better place.”
